15th Safar 1421
All praise be to Almighty Allah (swt), the Lord of the Universe.
In the Peak of Eloquence (Nahjul-Balagha), Imam Ali b. Abu Talib (as) mentions:
"This world is a place for transit, not a place to (permanently) stay. The people herein are of two categories: one is the person who sold away his self (to his passions) and thus ruined it, and the other is the one who purchased his self (by controlling his passions) and thus attained freedom" - Amir-ul-Momineen (as) in Nahjul Balagha
These words of wisdom carry a deep message within them. Human beings have been blessed with the power of reasoning to be able to discern between truth and falsehood. The beasts were not given this choice and nor were the angels. Thus, by conquering the ego and passions in oneself, the human can attain a level that is much superior than the angels.
In contrast, the one who falls prey to the ego and passions
becomes worse than the beasts, and is a slave of worldly desires. The challenge
we face today is to channel our natural desires in the path that is prescribed
by Islam, despite residing in an environment that contains a plethora of infidelity.
Let us overcome this challenge in this place of transit, and seek the eternal
